The first thing most business people do when they meet someone new (potential supplier, client, interviewee or even competitor) is check them out on social media and Linkedin is usually the first place to look.
If carefully constructed, you profile will support the impression that you have sought to leave if you are a potential supplier, client or interviewee, but if you have left a poor impression no one will check you out anyway!
Be aware that your professional record establishing credibility is only one reason to be to have a personal profile on LinkedIn. American research lists these as their top 3 reasons to be there.
